Dave Thomas introduced Wendy's to the world in 1969 and of course they were behind McDonald's and Burger King until now. According to a report on the food industry that is to be released on April 13th, Wendy's has knocked Burger King out of the number two spot for the first time in it's history. Sales figures for 2011 had McDonald's at number one with sales of $34.2 billion worldwide, followed by Wendy's at $8.5 billion and Burger King a very close third at $8.4 billion. Burger is still number two in terms of the number of locations behind the Golden Arches.

The study was conducted using system-wide sales figures at franchise and company-owned stores rather than corporate revenue. Below are two classic TV commercials For Wendy's taking on McDonald's and Burger King.
