It's the 4th of July, one of the most patriotic holidays in this country. You will hear many versions of the National Anthem over this holiday weekend either at local fireworks shows or sporting events, which isn't always a good thing. I think most would agree that our National Anthem is one of the most difficult songs there is to sing, let alone sing well. There are great versions of the anthem and there are horrible versions of our anthem.

The good ones stand alone and are enjoyed and appreciated by all, but the bad ones happen for one of three reasons...either the person or persons simply cannot sing at all, they don't know or forget the words, or the worst,  when singers decide to take liberties with the anthem and create their own unique version, which are usually awful.

If you are going to perform the anthem yourself, make sure you learn the words. I think it is even acceptable to have a cheat sheet with you with the words on it.....just in case, but whatever you do.....under no circumstances should you ever, ever, ever try and create your own personally styled version.....EVER!!!! This almost NEVER works. Just sing it as written, don't complicate it and you should be fine, especially if you can actually sing.

Check out a TIME compilation of the worst cringe-worthy versions of our nation's anthem....enjoy and Happy 4th of July.
