If you are planning to get your holiday weekend started a little early this year with some friends at the local tavern, Evansville law enforcement officials would like to remind you that you could end up having Thanksgiving dinner in the county jail.

As a means to improve the overall safety conditions of the roads this Thanksgiving holiday, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, in association with the Evansville Police Department and the Indiana State Police, will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint this coming Wednesday evening, November 21, from 11pm to 3am, according to a press release.

While the specific location of the checkpoint has not been revealed, the area that has been chosen was selected because of its high rate of hit and run crashes during late October and early November. Hit and run crashes are often caused by impaired drivers fleeing the scene, according to the release.

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is one of the biggest party nights of the year. And while having Thanksgiving dinner with a bunch of criminals in the Vanderburgh County jail might sound like fun for some of you – most will agree that celebrating Thanksgiving at home is better.
