US Women’s Soccer Team Advances To World Cup Final
Not since 1999 has the US been so crazy about soccer when Mia Hamm and Brandi Chastain took the World Cup championship. Yesterday in their semi-final against France, Abby Wambach scored the go ahead goal to lead the US team to a 3-1 victory over France and advancing to the World Cup Final against Japan. The US took an early 1-0 lead when the french team began to dominate on possession, finally scoring in the 55th minute to tie the game at 1-1. It was Wambach, in the 78th minute who headed in a corner shot to put the US ahead for good. It was also Wambach who scored the go ahead goal against Brazil in a thrilling quarterfinal game that seemed very improbable. The US will again play for the World Cup against Japan on Sunday in Frankfurt, Germany.
