UPDATE:

Daviess County Coroner, Jeff Jones has confirmed that Ryan Peters, 21 of Owensboro, past away due to internal injuries after an accident at Windy Hollow Speedway, Sunday, September 8th. A report from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office states that a car on the track may have been struck by another car. The car that was struck then hit the wall in one of the turns. After striking the wall and a utility pole, the car then struck several spectators. The spectators were observing the race from the pit area of the track. Medical personnel transported three individuals with injuries. Ryan Peters passed away from internal injuries at the hospital. Our thoughts are prayers are with the Peters family, those injured and the first responders during this difficult time.

Published September 8th, 2013:

I noticed a lot of Facebook chatter late Sunday night (September 8th) regarding an accident at Windy Hollow Speedway in Owensboro. Many were discussing the event as “tragic” and were asking for prayers.

As of 10:26pm Sunday night, the Daviess County Sheriff’s office could only confirm that there was an accident at WHS. They could not give me any more information, but we should have more details first thing Monday morning.

According to a bystander, a race car came over the fence and landed on an individual. The witness also said that Life Flight was called. Again, this is an UNOFFICIAL report from a witness at WHS.

Please keep all involved in your prayers.

We will update you with any new information we receive.
