Last night, my wife was talking to our son at college.  Actually, they were not talking, they were texting - when it hit me. Why not just call and have a conversation with him? Whatever happened to having actual voice conversations with someone over the phone...why do most people prefer the text? I think it is far more inconvenient and time consuming to text, when a call can be accomplished in a fraction of the time from start to finish. This is particularly true when one or both parties are in the car.

It frustrates me so much to have a ten minute text exchange about what to pick up at the store for dinner, when we could have taken care of this, voice to voice, in about two minutes or less. For whatever reason, a personal one on one is just not comfortable. The very idea of dealing with someone face to face, or voice to voice, is stomach-churning and loaded with anxiety.

I know couples who argue via text because neither one has the guts to say what they feel face to face or over the phone, and sometimes while under the same roof!!! Why??  Because there are no repercussions that way, and you can choose to not respond to or even read their response...you can just simply ignore them and go about your day without having a 'confrontation'.

I also know people who never answer their phone when I call, but if I send a text after the call attempt, they text back IMMEDIATELY, every single time. Why do we fear each other so?

I think one of the biggest problems in society today is that we live in fear of each other's differences instead of embracing and accepting our differences as human beings, which is inescapable....we are all different......just as we should be. That is part of being an individual. Is that really so scary? Let's talk MORE and text LESS.  Is that even possible anymore? You decide.
