Taylor Swift’s Parents Didn’t Want Her to Get Into Music

Back in 2006, when Taylor Swift released her self-titled debut album, she was only 17. And you know what that means? The country star’s parents had to be on board with her music career before she ever stepped into the country music scene. Turns out, Ma and Pa Swift weren’t too keen on turning their teenage daughter into a music sensation. Luckily, the young ‘Tim McGraw’ hitmaker changed their minds.
In a recent interview with ‘Marie Claire,’ Swift dished about her parents’ response to her musical ambition.
“My parents were thrown into this — they never had any desire for me to do music,” she said (quotes via Entertainment Wise).
What? We don’t want to even imagine a world where Swift’s hits aren’t playing on the radio. Fortunately–in true teenager fashion–the young singer swayed her parents’ opinion.
“I was just constant, non-stop annoying, perpetually bringing it up,” she said. “My parents saw that I was so obsessed, that I wasn’t going to drop it, that it wasn’t some adolescent phase.”
Of course, these days, Swift’s parents are on board with the award-winning singer’s success. Swift’s father works as her financial officer, and her mother frequently offers up marketing advice.
“My mom has a great marketing mind — she always has a good gut instinct on things,” Swift adds.
In the end, it seems like the ‘Begin Again’ songstress was destined to become a musician. With millions of devoted followers, and 113 awards under her belt, young Swift was onto something when she said she wanted to be a singer!
