Taylor Swift Added to Growing List of American Music Awards Performers

Taylor Swift will perform during the upcoming 2012 American Music Awards ceremony, adding the primetime appearance to her already exhausting promotional blitz in support of her latest studio album, ‘Red.’ The ‘Begin Again’ singer is not the only country artist confirmed in the star-studded lineup — Carrie Underwood will also be there.
Swift will once again defend her title as the Favorite Female Country Artist, an honor the superstar has snagged every year since 2008. Last year, Swift was the night’s big winner, taking home three major awards including the all-genre Artist of the Year trophy. Her 2010 multi-platinum ‘Speak Now’ album also earned Favorite Country Album honors.
“This is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me,” Swift said after accepting the big honor. The singer also took home the top prize in 2009.
She may need to redefine the word ‘craziest’ this year after selling more than a million copies of ‘Red’ in its debut week — the second time Swift has done so with her critically-acclaimed studio albums. ‘Red’ sold more than 500,000 copies in one day alone, shattering her previous best set by ‘Speak Now’ in 2010, which also debuted at No. 1 with an instant platinum certification.
“I think for me, this album is so interesting because itâs difficult to pick a song thatâs closest to me. Every one of these songs is a snapshot of a very different time in my life, you know?” Swift tells Taste of Country exclusively about her latest project. “You go track-by-track, and this oneâs about extreme sadness, and this oneâs about extreme frustration, and this oneâs about hope! [laughs] And this oneâs about, you know, seeing someone and falling in love for the first time.”
Will Swift pull the pop vixen card and perform her crossover smash ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ at the American Music Awards, or will the songstress display her softer side with the beautiful country ballad ‘Begin Again?’ The only way to find out is to tune in to ABC on Nov. 18 at 8PM ET for live broadcast of the 40th annual event.
