Raising the minimum wage has been a very hot topic over the last twelve months and there is about to be a big push in Washington to get it done by 2016. Those who oppose raising the minimum wage say it will take away jobs and all but kill small business owners. Those in favor say it is long overdue and will put a dent in the poverty crisis in this country.

According to a new poll from the Hart Research Associates, more than 80% of American adults are in favor of the minimum wage being raised to slightly over $10 per hour. The current minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, which was established in July of 2009 and many believe a move up in the wage is in order.

My wife and I go out to dinner frequently and have a couple of favorite places and have gotten to know some of the wait staff in some of our hangouts pretty well. We consider ourselves to be good tippers, always tipping at least 20% and in most cases, a little higher if the service was good, but never less than 20%. It astonishes me how little servers make, in terms of hourly wage excluding tips.
