Jerrod Niemann is releasing a sophomore album, the follow-up to his successful debut, 'Judge Jerrod and the Hung Jury.' The new collection of tunes, 'Free the Music,' shows his growth and maturity as a man, singer and songwriter, but still has a fair share of personality and fun mixed in.

Today the Academy of Country Music and Great American Country (GAC) announced the 2012 semi-finalists for the New Artist of the Year award, which consists of eight artists after the first round of professional voting. This year’s semi-finalist list includes Scotty McCreery, Brantley Gilbert, Hunter Hayes, Thompson Square, JT Hodges, David Nail, Jerrod Niemann and Justin Moore.

Last week I revealed some original versions of songs you may not have known were cover songs.  I failed to include one I didn't even know was a cover, by a band I didn't know was a band.  Jerrod Niemann's "Lover, Lover" is a direct cover of a song from the early 90's by a group known as Sonia Dada.
