The Evansville Police Department and Vanderburgh Sheriff's Department will join the Indiana State Police for the roughly two week program aimed at getting drunk drivers off the street, and cause people to think twice before getting behind the wheel after a night out.

Using federal grant money, the law enforcement agencies will set up DUI checkpoints and send a heavy patrol of officers out to the streets in an effort to spot and stop impaired drivers from harming themselves or other motorists.

A word to the wise, as tempting as may be to put the key in the ignition and head home because you "only had a few" (we've all been there, myself included), stop and think if the potential for a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail is worth it. That $20 cab ride home doesn't seem so bad now does it?

"Operation Pull Over" is scheduled to run through September 2nd.
