Mater Dei graduate Ryan Burns passed away at just 26 years old from suicide.  His family & friends created the Ryan Burns Memorial Foundation to help his legacy live on, and they strive to raise awareness about suicide, and provide assistance to those in need.

Ryan's sister Amanda actually reached out to me by email, after winning Luke Bryan tickets a few weeks ago.  She told me that one of the last big memories she has with her brother was seeing Luke Bryan at the Ford Center. Luke Bryan also knows what it's like to lose a sibling, he's lost his brother and his sister.  Amanda said that recently reading an interview with Luke Bryan helped her when he said:

you have to honor their memory by living and you have to be a positive light for people

How do you deal with losing a sibling?  I said buddy you just have to talk to them like they are still here.  You just talk to them and treat them like they are here.  I mean it is awful that they are not here, it’s so frustrating, but if you live long enough life is gonna get you a bit.

That is exactly what Amanda and her family are doing. Along with friends of Ryan, they are being positive lights for people in the community.

If you'd like to join them for the Remembering Ryan Benefit, you can RSVP via their event page on Facebook.
