Randy Travis took the stage in Fort Worth on Tuesday (Sept. 26) to record a segment for RFD-TV's The Penny Gilley Show, showing his determination nearly four years after a stroke nearly took his life.

Travis performed his 1987 hit "Forever and Ever, Amen," marking a milestone in his journey. He infamously weathered the massive stroke in 2013, following a long period of personal and professional controversies, and has been unable to speak or walk without assistance since. Since 2014, he has been re-learning skills, including taking up his musical ambitions again.

"You just don't give up. God doesn't read the medical reports,” explains wife Mary Travis.

"I think it was one of the Oak Ridge Boys who said 'God’s not ready for you, and the devil don't want you," she quips. "We're fortunate to still be here, and still fighting. We hope we can give other people hope."

Travis gave a couple of brief, but high-profile performances in 2016: A simple but powerful version of “Amazing Grace” in October to commemorate his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and a single-word delivery of the final "amen" during a collaborative performance of “Forever and Ever, Amen" at the 50th annual CMA Awards in November.
