It is probably a good idea for area businesses to monitor their cash a little more closely — authorities in Kentucky are reporting that counterfeit money is being circulated throughout the area.

Earlier this week, the Morganfield Police Department seized more than $200 in counterfeit bills from area businesses.

According to a new release issue by Morganfield Police Sergeant Craig Bolds, the funny money is being circulated in all denominations, and authorities are strongly advising that business proprietors and their employees take some extra time to inspect the authenticity of all the currency that passes through their establishments.

While authorities say you should never try to detain a person attempting to pass a bogus bill, they do ask that you contact your local law enforcement immediately and provide them with as much information as possible including vehicle descriptions, license plate numbers, clothing and personal descriptions.

It is not yet known if there are any suspects as this is an ongoing investigation.
