Last June, we reported that The Newburgh Town Council voted in favor of a rezoning for an incoming Walmart Neighborhood Market right outskirts the downtown area. At that time, the council voted 4 to 1 in favor of the new store. But, the vote upset several area residents. Many felt that at Walmart would add unnecessary traffic, take away from the downtown area's charm and extinguish local business. But, some felt that the grocery store would add new growth to a stagnant area.

It was announced today that neighborhood Walmart will not be built. According to 14WFIE, plans to purchase the property fell through and the decision was made to scrap the project. You can find new information when it becomes available here.
