If you have been thinking of adding a furry member to your family, and are maybe thinking a Pit Bull type dog could be a good fit, the Daviess County Animal Shelter is working hard to get these great dogs, into good homes.

Daviess County Animal Shelter is waving the adoption fees of Pit Bulls during the month of May, of course they want to make sure these dogs go to good homes, so homes will need to be approved.

Pit Bulls are the most common breed you will find in shelters, and that's partially because "Pit Bull" isn't actually a breed at all. The term Pit Bull is a blanket term for dogs that have a certain set of physical characteristics, AKA blocky head, muscular build, etc.. So typically "Pit Bull" type dogs, are made up of many different breeds. Most commonly the American Pit Bull terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and the American Bulldog.

Pit Bulls often times get a bad rap, because they are often victims of cruel exploitation, media sensationalism, over-breeding, and mostly they're just extremely misunderstood.  This leads to many of the reasons Pit Bulls are the most common breed you'll find homeless.

I'm the owner of 2 rescued Pit Bulls, and honestly they've completely changed my perspective on the breed. I was a little bit worried at first when I adopted Wrigley, but once getting to know her and after doing stupid amounts of research on the breed I realized, Pit Bulls are just dogs. And I mean that in the best way possible. They're dogs. They're loving, loyal, adorable, tail wagging, ball fetching, dogs. All they want is the same as any other breed of dog, they just want to be loved, and in return they will love you unconditionally. If you're interested in learning more, here's a blog I did back in October about the breed!

The Daviess County Animal Shelter is hosting free adoptions for Pit Bulls during the month of May to help get these dogs into great homes and out of the shelter.  Now since the adoptions are free, they will be making sure the homes these dogs go to are good homes, so your home will have to be approved.  If you're interested in learning more, or meeting some of these dogs who are looking for their forever homes, check out Daviess County Animal Shelter! You can  email them a DCACanimals@Yahoo.com and check out DaviessKY.org for an adoption application.
