It's been a busy week for the brand new Ford Center in downtown Evansville. After 2 years of construction and many years of discussion prior, The Ford Center is open. Over the last week or so, it has hosted a couple Aces games, an Icemen game, and Bob Seger in concert, and before Reba McEntire takes the stage tonight, the city took time to officially celebrate the grand opening of the arena with a ribbon cutting hosted by outgoing Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel

Evansville's new Downtown Arena has been named the "Ford Center." The announcement was made this afternoon at a press conference with Mayor Jonathan Wienzapfel and D Patrick Ford President Mike O'Daniel.
As the new Evansville downtown arena nears completion, we are about to find out what it will be called, along with some of the events that will be held there. Yesterday, Venuworks president, Steve Peters made an appearance on Local 7 TV to discuss the naming announcement that will happen at 1pm today. He also mentioned that next week, the venue will begin naming some of the events that will be held at the arena over the first 6 to 8 weeks of operation.
On Memorial Day, we commemorate all the U.S. soldiers who've died while serving our country. With so many of our servicemen and women currently on dangerous overseas assignments, it's also a time to think about their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of their families back home.
In these videos, families of soldiers get the surprise and relief of a lifetime when their loved ones return home from duty unannounced. You'll really want to grab a box of tissues before watching.
