I can't tell you how many times I've allowed someone to strap in my daughter's car seat only to find that they've installed it all wrong. And, it's not really their fault - car seats can be so confusing! But, it's one of THE MOST important things you can do - check and recheck your kids' car seats every single time they get in the car - no matter WHO installed it.  I've also looked back and discovered that the seatbelt that holds her seat in place has come unbuckled.

To help with some of the confusion of car seat installation, Owensboro Health is partnering with local law enforcement agencies, offering area families a free opportunity to have car and booster seats professionally checked and installed. Bring anyone who regularly transports your child to the event to make sure they also know how to properly install the car seat.

As part of the event, instructors from Kosair Children’s Hospital, the Owensboro Police Department and the Kentucky State Police will participate in the check. Through a grant provided by Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, Owensboro Health Foundation is also funding the training of 10 technicians, who will earn their national child passenger safety certification as part of the event.

The event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, August 25, at Owensboro Health’s New Hartford Road location (located in the former Atmos Energy building).
