When George Yerolemou went to the Evansville Redevelopment Commission he wanted to make it clear that he was not asking for funding from the city. He only wanted approval from the commission to renovate the old Riverhouse Hotel.

Yerolemou said, "We didn't ask for help from anybody. We're doing everything ourselves." He was making it clear that his project, unlike the construction of the new convention hotel, would not be subsidized by the city.

Yerolemou is converting the Riverhouse into a Comfort Inn and Suites with nearly 90 rooms. The walkway will remain, connecting the main hotel to the annex across the street. The hotel will also add an indoor pool and the area where the bar used to be will be a breakfast area for guests.

Construction is expected to take about a year.

The redevelopment commission voted 3-1 to approve the plan. The lone no vote came from Ed Hafer who said that the plans needed additional details like a landscaping plan.
