Back in February, Vanderburgh County Commissioners sent a letter to SMG, the management company that has managed the Old National Events Plaze since 1999, notifying them that the county might not renew their contract, as reported by the Courier & Press. The County was looking to update management to include additional upgrades to the properties.

But, during a meeting by the Vanderburgh County Commissioners meeting last night, it was announced that, "After review by County Attorney, Joe Harrison, Jr. the Vanderburgh County Board of Commissioners approved a new contract with SMG for management of Old National Events Plaza," along with their acceptance of a new General Manager for the property.

Formerly serving as the Director of Event Services New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and Director of Operations and Event Services at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Alexis Berggren will take over as General Manager of the Old National Events Plaza. She comes to the Evansville with experience in event management, guest services, faculty management, and has even been a primary liaison for internationally recognized award shows and television specials.

Regional Vice President Sam Voisin said, "SMG knows Vanderburgh County and Evansville better than any other company, and SMG is the largest public facility management company in the world. We have the most resources to bring to bear, especially to Evansville. Because of the size of this convention center, and the new hotel now, with all the assets that Evansville has, this is our sweet spot."

So, welcome to Ms. Berggren and we can't wait to see what SMG brings in during the next few years!
