We all need water to live, but what if your bottled water was contaminated with a dangerous bacteria. One major water company has issued a recall.

Last week, Niagara® Water issued a voluntary recall of spring water because of a possible E. coli contamination.

Out of an abundance of caution and in the strict interest of public safety, Niagara Bottling, LLC is issuing a voluntary recall for all spring water products produced at both the Hamburg, PA and Allentown, PA facilities from the time frame of 3am (EDT) June 10th to 8pm (EDT) June 18, 2015. The products were sold under the following brand names:

  • Acadia
  • Acme
  • Big Y
  • Best Yet
  • 7-11
  • Niagara
  • Nature’s Place
  • Pricerite
  • Superchill
  • Morning Fresh
  • Shaws
  • Shoprite
  • Western Beef Blue
  • Wegman’s

To determine if your product is affected, please reference the following information on the code, which can be found on the bottle. The code will indicate the place, date and time that the product was produced.

The only affected products have codes that begin with the letter F (for Hamburg) or A (for Allentown). The first digit after the letter indicates the number of the production line. The next two numbers indicate the day, then the month in letters, the year, and then the time, based on a 24-hour clock.

Example: A610JUN15 2000

The states affected include Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia, and North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Though the tri-state was not listed, with so many people traveling during the summer months, you should be on the lookout if you buy water from outside the area.

Today, Niagara issued this statement:

Because there has been a great deal of misinformation reported and circulated over the last 24 hours, we felt it was necessary to issue this clarifying statement.

Niagara Bottling performs extensive testing on both incoming spring water as well as finished products.  We have confirmed there have been no issues or E. coli contamination of any kind detected in our finished products or in the spring water that was delivered to our bottling facility.

Even if it had been present in the incoming spring water, we utilize quality systems and disinfection technology that would ensure that our product is free from contamination. Despite this, once we were informed of the potential presence of E. coli at the spring source, we immediately shut down our operations, disinfected our bottling lines and initiated a voluntary recall in an abundance of caution and in the interests of consumer safety.

This recall only relates to spring water produced in our Pennsylvania manufacturing facilities from June 10-18th, 2015.  It does not relate to any purified water or any spring water produced outside of Pennsylvania or outside the June 10-18th, 2015 timeframe.

To determine whether your product is part of this recall, please visit the links below. If you don’t see your product on the list, it was completely unaffected by the recall and is completely safe to drink.

Niagara has been family-owned and family run for over 50 years. Nothing is more important to us than consumer safety, which is why we issued this recall.
