NFL 2012 Season — Week 12 Recap
Several teams solidified their division leads in Week 12 of the 2012 NFL season. Here’s a recap of this week’s games:
N.Y. Giants 38 — Green Bay 10
The Giants capitalized on a pair of Aaron Rodgers’ turnovers on their way to a 31-point first half, as New York routed the Green Bay Packers, 38-10, in East Rutherford, N.J. on Sunday night. Eli Manning threw for 249 yards and three scores to lead New York (7-4). Ahmad Bradshaw tallied a combined 119 yards and scored a touchdown for the Giants, who turned a Rodgers’ interception and fumble into 10 first-half points. New York is two games ahead of Washington and Dallas in the NFC East.
Green Bay (7-4) was without linebacker Clay Matthews and defensive back Charles Woodson on defense. Rodgers was sacked five times. He finished with 219 passing yards and a touchdown.
Baltimore 16 — San Diego 13 (OT)
Justin Tucker kicked a 38-yard field goal to tie the game and another 38-yarder in overtime to win it, and the Baltimore Ravens beat the San Diego Chargers, 16-13, in San Diego on Sunday. Ray Rice helped set up Turner’s game-tying kick by converting a fourth-and-29 on a pass from Joe Flacco with 1:37 left in regulation. Rice had 164 combined yards for Baltimore (9-2). Flacco passed for 355 yards and a touchdown. Ravens’ receiver Torrey Smith caught seven passes for 144 yards. Baltimore is three games ahead of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in the AFC North. Quarterback Philip Rivers threw for 228 yards and a score for San Diego (4-7).
San Francisco 31 — New Orleans 21
Ahmad Brooks and Donte Whitner each returned interceptions for touchdowns, and San Francisco beat New Orleans, 31-21, in New Orleans on Sunday. San Francisco (8-2-1) sacked Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees five times and received solid play from quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who threw for 231 yards and a touchdown. Kaepernick ran for another score. San Francisco is two-and-a-half games ahead of Seattle in the NFC West. Brees finished with 267 passing yards for New Orleans (5-6), which saw its five-game winning streak snapped.
Cleveland 20 — Pittsburgh 14
The Steelers committed eight turnovers, including five fumbles, and the Cleveland Browns beat Pittsburgh, 20-14, in Cleveland on Sunday. Charlie Batch, who started at quarterback because of injuries to Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich, threw for 199 yards and three interceptions for Pittsburgh (6-5). Rookie running back Trent Richardson ran for 85 yards and the go-ahead touchdown for Cleveland (3-8). Browns’ quarterback Brandon Weeden left with a head injury late in the game.
Miami 24 — Seattle 21
Dan Carpenter kicked a 43-yard field goal as time expired, and the Miami Dolphins beat the Seattle Seahawks, 24-21, in Miami on Sunday. After the Seahawks’ Leon Washington returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown to give Seattle (6-5) a 21-14 lead, Miami (5-6) rallied for the final 10 points of the game.
Dolphins’ rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill was 18 for 26 for 253 yards and a 29-yard touchdown pass to Charles Clay that tied the game at 21 with 5:13 to play. Davone Bess caught seven passes for 129 yards for Miami, while teammate Reggie Bush carried 14 times for 87 yards and a score. Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson passed for 224 yards and two touchdowns. Washington’s return TD was the eighth of his career, tying an NFL record held by Josh Cribbs of the Cleveland Browns.
Atlanta 24 — Tampa Bay 23
Matt Ryan passed for 353 yards and a touchdown, and the Atlanta Falcons beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-23, in Tampa on Sunday. Trailing 23-17 in the fourth quarter, Atlanta (10-1) rallied behind Michael Turner’s 1-yard touchdown run with 7:55 left. Kicker Connor Barth missed a 56-yard field goal for Tampa Bay (6-5) with 3:32 to play.
Falcons’ receiver Julio Jones caught six passes for 147 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown. Atlanta is four games ahead of Tampa Bay in the NFC South. Quarterback Josh Freeman threw for 256 yards for the Buccaneers, while teammate Doug Martin ran for 50 yards and two scores.
Denver 17 — Kansas City 9
Peyton Manning threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns, and the Denver Broncos beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 17-9, in Kansas City on Sunday. Trailing 9-7 in the second half, Denver (8-3) rallied as Manning connected with wide receiver Demaryius Thomas on a 30-yard scoring pass in the third quarter. The Broncos tacked on an insurance field goal with 14 seconds to play in the game. Knowshon Moreno added 85 yards rushing for Denver, which leads the AFC West by four games over San Diego. Jamaal Charles carried 23 times for 107 yards for Kansas City (1-10), which has scored just one touchdown in its last three games.
Chicago 28 — Minnesota 10
Jay Cutler passed for 188 yards and a touchdown in his first game back from a concussion, and the Chicago Bears beat the Minnesota Vikings, 28-10, in Chicago on Sunday. Chicago (8-3) jumped out to a 25-3 halftime lead and never allowed the Vikings to get close. Brandon Marshall had 12 receptions for 92 yards for the Bears, who lost return specialist Devin Hester and running back Matt Forte to injuries. Chicago leads the NFC North by one game over Green Bay. Adrian Peterson had 108 yards rushing for Minnesota (6-5).
Jacksonville 24 — Tennessee 19
Chad Henne threw for 261 yards and two touchdown passes, and the Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Tennessee Titans, 24-19, in Jacksonville on Sunday. Tennessee (4-7) closed to within 21-19 on Jake Locker’s 6-yard scoring pass to Kenny Britt with 4:52 left, but Dwight Lowery intercepted Locker late in the game to thwart the rally. Locker finished with 262 yards passing, a touchdown and two interceptions. Receiver Cecil Shorts III caught four passes for 105 yards and a score for Jacksonville (2-9). The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Jaguars.
Indianapolis 20 — Buffalo 13
T.Y. Hilton scored touchdowns on a punt return and a reception, and the Indianapolis Colts beat the Buffalo Bills, 20-13, in Indianapolis on Sunday. Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck was 20 of 37 for 240 yards, a touchdown and an interception for Indianapolis (7-4). Reggie Wayne had eight receptions for 102 yards for the Colts. C.J. Spiller ran for 107 yards for Buffalo (4-7), while teammate Stevie Johnson caught six passes for 106 yards.
St. Louis 31 — Arizona 17
Janoris Jenkins returned two interceptions for touchdowns, and the St. Louis Rams beat the Arizona Cardinals, 31-17, in Glendale, Ariz. Sam Bradford passed for 205 yards and two scores for St. Louis (4-6-1), while teammate Steven Jackson carried 24 times for 139 yards. Chris Givens caught five passes for 115 yards and a touchdown for the Rams. Rookie quarterback Ryan Lindley threw for 312 yards and four costly interceptions for Arizona (4-7), which lost its seventh straight game.
Cincinnati 34 — Oakland 10
Andy Dalton passed for 210 yards and three touchdowns, and the Cincinnati Bengals trounced the Oakland Raiders, 34-10, in Cincinnati on Sunday. BenJarvus Green-Ellis added 129 rushing yards and a touchdown for Cincinnati (6-5). Bengals’ receiver A.J. Green caught three passes for 111 yards. Raiders’ quarterback Carson Palmer went 19 of 34 for 146 yards and an interception against his former team. Oakland (3-8) allowed four sacks and has given up 169 points in its last four games — all losses.
