In her new illustrated book designed for young readers, Dolly Parton takes the lyrics from her popular classic, "Coat of Many Colors" to tell the story of a young girl whose mother sews her a winter coat made of rags.

Dolly Parton: Coat of Many Colors [book cover]

When the girl wears the coat to school, her classmates make fun of her for being poor.  Hurt, but, not backing down, the young girl describes how her mom made the coat with love "in every stitch." Coat of Many Colors is the title of Dolly's new book for children available now (released on October 18, 2016.)

The story is based on Dolly's life as a young girl growing up in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. She stresses the importance of being respectful to others and being grateful for what you have.  Her new children's book features all-new illustrations by Brooke Boynton Hughes and features a downloadable exclusive original song entitled, “Making Fun Ain’t Funny."

In 1988, Dolly started "The Dollywood Foundation" to inspire kids in her hometown community to dream more, learn more, care more, and be more. Her signature program, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library helps give preschool children a book each month from the time they are born until the child reaches kindergarten.  So far, over 80 million books have been gifted to children in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

Coat of Many Colors is published by Penguin Random House.
