The age-old choice of whether to stay or leave was the central theme of Wednesday night's (Nov. 14) episode of ABC's 'Nashville.' In an episode appropriately titled "You're Gonna Change (Or I'm Gonna Leave)," several of the main characters were contemplating major changes, while one pivotal relationship appears to have failed altogether.

Last week's episode left most of the major characters at a crossroads, and this week moved them forward into the next phase of their lives -- for better or worse. It looks like the star-crossed romance between Avery (Jonathan Jackson) and Scarlett (Clare Bowen) has finally come apart -- after his ambition nearly led him to sleep with a female manager in order to get his band signed to her company -- and in fact, after Scarlett left him, he went back and sealed the deal.

Rayna (Connie Britton) finally started to move forward, deciding to meet with a famed rock producer to try to give her next project an edgier sound. The only problem was, he didn't even want to hear her new music, dismissing her as an artist that appealed to "moms in SUVs." But a determined Rayna finally persuaded him, and in a drunken late-night session, they captured some magic -- only for her to find that if she wants to work with him, she might have to seek a new label deal, since the head of her record company does not approve.

Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) finally caught a break this week, when a date her publicist arranged with a squeaky-clean quarterback for PR purposes actually turned out to be fun -- though in true Juliette style, it ended up with him pushing an obnoxious tabloid photographer outside a club, touching off yet another potential viral photo scandal. But this time she got the last laugh by showing her better side, paying the photographer $25,000 and offering him future exclusives if he made the picture go away so her new potential boyfriend's football career wouldn't be damaged.

Teddy (Eric Close) came one step closer to becoming Lamar's (Powers Boothe) corrupt puppet, allowing him to set up his political opponent, Coleman Carlisle (Robert Wisdom), for a traffic stop so that he would be late for a crucial appearance. A small enough concession, but for the fact that Carlisle -- a former addict who is Deacon's sponsor -- still had a bottle of Oxycontin in his car that Deacon gave him for safekeeping after taking it from Juliette's mom. That led to a huge public scandal that -- of course -- ended up benefiting Teddy's mayoral bid, and right after he had signed a public pledge to run a clean campaign.

Of course, turnabout is fair play, and it ended up that Coleman is the one who has been employing a photographer to stalk Teddy, which has yielded photos of he and Peggy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) in late-night meetings that make it look like they are having an affair -- though they are actually discussing an old embezzlement they pulled off that may now come back to haunt them.

The trailer for 'Nashville' Episode 7 looks like Rayna is going to be placed in any number of uncomfortable situations, from the revelation of Teddy's past indiscretions, to having to work with Juliette after all... which ought to offer plenty of fireworks.
