The announcement is expected soon from Mayor Lloyd Winnecke on who should build a new Downtown hotel as well as the amount of money the city will kick in for the project.

Three companies have submitted bids and met with the mayor.  They are Gatehouse Capital Corp. of Dallas; HCW of Branson, Mo.; and Swerdling & Associates of Denver.

The new hotel will be built where the Green  Convention Center parking garage was located at MLK and Walnut.

The hotel will provide for 240-260 guest rooms as well as retail and dining establishments.

The three proposals call for a 12-14 month construction period.

Former mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel had selected the Kunkel Group for the construction and management of the hotel.

But, when Lloyd Winnecke took office he hired a consultant and established new guidelines for the project.

The mayor is expected to announce his recommendations within the next couple of weeks.
