I am sitting here trying to make sense of the events of the last 24 hours and just like 9/11, I am struggling to understand, as are most of us. One thing that struck me watching the network newscasts last night, was the fact that almost all of them said the White House and Boston city officials were stopping short of calling this a terrorist act, which changed by early evening. This was most certainly a terrorist act from the moment those bombs were planted. The question is, whether this attack was the work of foreign terrorists or worse yet, one of our own. Up to this point, no one specific group has claimed any real responsibility for this attack.

Yesterday was Patriots Day and near the anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing of the Federal Building in 1995. Then, it was an American who had an axe to grind with his country who carried out that attack and his name was Timothy McVeigh who was later executed for that crime at the prison in Terre Haute.

We certainly do not have enough information yet as to whether this attack was carried out by one or some of our own, or a foreign enemy, but the very idea that we could potentially be dealing with another Timothy McVeigh scares me to death. I don't know about you, but McVeigh scared me more than the likes of Osama Bin-Laden.

McVeigh was an American citizen who lived in this country and enjoyed all of the freedoms and advantages living in this country provides. Like you and I, McVeigh was free to roam the streets and had the same access to places and events that all Americans have. Where do we draw the line and for God's sake - how do we spot these people?

Thank God there is far more good in this world than evil, but it takes so few of the evil to wreak the kind of havoc we have seen in this country from 9/11 to yesterday. We have to be better at spotting these people, but how?

I am confident that whoever is responsible will be found and dealt with accordingly. We live in a smartphone world with cameras and video recorders in our breast pockets. Somebody, somewhere captured something on their phone that could and will give us the answers we so desperately need, even though they might not have the slightest clue what they captured.

One thing though never changes. We are Americans and we will get through this together, we always do. Goodness will win every time. For those affected by yesterday's tragedy, my heart breaks for you. There is a reason we are the strongest nation on earth. I truly believe that God never burdens us with more than we can handle. We WILL find those responsible and bring them to justice...make no mistake.
