Luke Bryan Shares Tri-State Memories and Why He Picked Evansville to Kick Off His Tour – Leslie’s Interview
The first time I met Luke Bryan was six years ago when he came to Evansville to perform at Woody’s. I had no idea who he was other than the fact the he had a song on the radio, his debut single, ‘All My Friends Say,’ that I really liked. Little did I know that, the artist I was about to meet would be a MEGA country STAR!
In my interview with Luke on Thursday, I found out that not only do I have some great memories of my first meeting with Luke, but HE has some very fond memories of the Tri-State as well
When I asked him about his first headlining tour, the ‘Dirt Road Diaries,’ and the fact that Evansville was the FIRST stop, he immediately started bragging on the Tri-State:
“You know, I have said for years, anytime we’ve ever played in the state of Indiana there’s just always kinda been something pretty crazy and magical about this state. We’ve played it so many times, and we’ve always been really fortunate and selling out places any time we played indiana. So, we started right here in Evansville.”
He even shared a memory of a trip to the Fall Festival:
“You know, I have got a great story with Evansville. My first year in Nashville, I met a guy you’ve probably heard of, Bryan Cole. He’s a buddy of mine, and he’s from Evansville. We came up to the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival and got all involved in the festivities. And the funny thing about it is, I’m from Georgia. And it’s in the fall, it’s around the first of October and Georgia was playing Tennessee. And I’m in the middle of a bar, and it’s in the middle of the nut club festival. It’s funny saying that, but I’m used to it now.”
“But what’s funny is that Georgia had one of the best games in the history of Georgia football, and they beat Tennessee on the last play as time expired. And I’m jumping up and down in the middle of this festival. anyway its a wonderful memory,” said Bryan. “They’re staring at me like, ‘Get this Georgia boy out of here!’”
And, of course, one can’t be in Evansville without thinking about going to Casino Aztar. Even, Luke Bryan!
“I think this is the first time I’m going to be in Evansville and not give a bunch of money to Casino Aztar. I’m just forcing myself because that place whups my tail every time.”
Apparently, he is just like the rest of us who leave the casino with a lot less than we came with!
