Three members of Little Big Town stepped up to the mic at the 2015 American Music Awards, but not to perform. They were there to introduce the fourth member, Karen Fairchild, with Luke Bryan for a duet performance of Bryan’s tune “Home Alone Tonight."

“Normally there are four of us, but you’ll notice, Karen’s missin’,” Kim Schlapman began.

“Turns out she left us,” Jimi Westbrook teased. “But just for the next few minutes."

The band were genuinely proud to introduce their fellow member’s unique performance, smiling as they announced Bryan and Fairchild in unison.

An elaborate set featured a spinning metallic centerpiece with partitions concealing the singers as they began the song. Bryan and Fairchild alternated lines in the verse, told from two perspectives, emerging from the center to the main stage. Their harmonies blended beautifully as the two powerful vocalists sang the chorus together with the backing vocals, making for an impressive performance.

The song is the first male-female collaboration Bryan has featured on one of his albums, which he said was a matter of waiting for the right song at the right time.

“We had always certainly entertained the right collaboration under the right circumstances,” Bryan says, “but it’s always about the right song, and we’ve never really found the song that necessarily did what we wanted it to do.”

“Home Alone Tonight” appears on his most recent album Kill the Lights, which he is slated to begin touring in 2016.
