It seems like the cool thing to do now is to bring 90's nostalgia back...not that I am complaining though. As a child of the 90s, I love to see the things that I grew up on come back for my entertainment pleasure.

Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly teaming up with Scream Queens star Glen Powell and his writing partner Jono Matt to create a live-action adaptation of the 90s cartoon Captain Planet and the Planeteers. There is no word yet on if Leo will be starring in the film, but who better to play Captain Planet? The project and its environmental themes are a natural fit for DiCaprio, an well-known environmentalist who often speaks out on issues such as global warming.

Captain Planet tells the story of five kids from around the world who are chosen by Gaia (the spirit of the Earth itself) to protect the planet from ecological disasters with the powers of earth, fire, wind, water, and heart. With their powers combined they can summon Captain Planet, a blue superhero with an iconic green mullet who uses the power of nature to save the world. Basically, you can sum up the entire plot by the theme song that every child of the 90s sang along with:

Apparently, this movie will be a little different than the TV show. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will take place years after the adventures of the original series and the Captain is now a "washed-up has-been who needs the kids more than they need him."

There are only two things that I care about in regards to the movie: Captain Planet still has his mullet, and the theme song is in the movie. It will be interesting to see if this will be a darker adaptation much like the new Power Rangers movie will be compared to the original television series. Either way, I am sure fans of the series will be looking forward to seeing Captain Planet save the planet once again!
