Lauren Alaina performed a brand new song called 'Breakdown' at the Girls With Guitars show on Long Island, N.Y. on March 7. So, what's the verdict on this new track from the runner up on Season 10 of 'American Idol?'

It's a big, bold and beautifully heartbreaking acoustic ballad that lets the perky blonde's voice shine. It's truly a vehicle for that gorgeous voice of hers. She might very well have a country hit on her hands with this lovelorn track about breaking down before you break up and the slow and steady disintegration of a relationship. When she sings, "How many times are we gonna break down / Before we break up?," it tugs at the heartstrings.

The music is spare, but her voice fills the room. It sounds like a song that would be at home on a Carrie Underwood or a Taylor Swift record. In fact, it has that lived in, open diary vibe that is Swift's calling card. While there's twang in the guitars and in her voice, this could veritably cross over.

For her part, Alaina looked gorgeous in black pants, a pink peplum top and a pink fedora, showing off her grown up yet sexy, shoulder-skimming bob. She was, in a word, stunning, both vocally and in her style choice.

Alaina sounds stronger and more seasoned than she did on her debut 'Wildflower,' which was a solid release. But she was just getting her legs under her on the album. All the touring, performing and promotional appearances helped the singer to hone her craft and she certainly strengthened her instrument.

If this song is any indication, Lauren Alaina could explode on her sophomore set.

Alaina isn't the only Season 10 'Idol' contestant to debut new material. Eventual winner Scotty McCreery has also performed new songs live while on the road. These two are proof that Season 10 was one of the show's strongest...ever!
