Some of the biggest hits of Kenny Chesney's career have come in the form of collaborations with pop stars such as Uncle Kracker, Pink and Grace Potter, to name just a few. His new album, Songs for the Saintsfeatures another track list full of Chesney's musical friends, all champing at the bit to deliver a powerful collection of songs.

Chesney is joined by Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Buffett and Mindy Smith for the project. The country superstar says that each of his collaborators carried special meaning for him, as he recorded the album in the wake of the devastation that Hurricane Irma wrought on his beloved island life.

“Each one of them has a tie to my life in the islands, but also reflects some piece of what we’re trying to do," Chesney shares in a press release. "Ziggy Marley, and his family’s legacy, holds so much truth for all of the people I know down there. Mindy Smith’s Come to Jesus was an album I lived with from morning to night when I was first going down there – and her voice sounds like an angel. And Jimmy, more than the lost shaker of salt, understands the poetry of the islands beyond what tourists see, the life, in a way that makes a song written decades ago so current.”

Songs for the Saints was recorded in Nashville as the hurricane swept through Chesney's home island on St. John. He devoted the new album to the resilience of the island spirit on St. John and the other U.S. Virgin Islands.

“I wanted to make a record that shows the spirit and resilience of the people who live on those islands, who are generationally tied to them, or are raising families there,” Chesney says.

Songs for the Saints will be released July 27 but is available for pre-order on June 15.
