Jimmy Fallon to Replace Jay Leno in 2014?
Even though it took place several years ago, we all remember the big late-night showdowns that saw Jay Leno stepping down from the throne of ‘The Tonight Show,’ only to develop his own series immediately before Conan O’Brien‘s hosting turn, which ultimately saw the whole thing implode and returned Leno where he started. Now, new rumors suggest that Leno will finally step down in 2014 to be replaced by his ‘Late Night’ successor Jimmy Fallon, but is there any truth to the new late-night war on the horizon?
There can be no argument that today’s more youthful late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel have been killing it of late, but might their mutual rivalry replace David Letterman and Jay Leno’s as early as 2014? That’s the suggestion The Hollywood Reporter claims, believing that Leno will officially step down in 2014 and move Jimmy Fallon into the coveted host of ‘The Tonight Show,’ airing head-to-head with Jimmy Kimmel’s now-11:35 slotted ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
Of course, NBC has denied the story while a representative for Leno coolly stated “we do not speculate on rumor.” No word is given on what would become of David Letterman or ‘The Late Show,’ given that Letterman’s contract also expires in 2014.
