Jewel Makes Her Debut as June Carter Cash
If there were any doubts about Jewel’s ability to transform into a dead ringer of June Carter Cash, they’ve been dispelled by a photo the country singer posted to Twitter this week. Jewel will be playing June Carter Cash, the wife of legendary singer Johnny Cash, in a Lifetime biopic about the late ‘Jackson’ songstress.
Normally, Jewel is a beautiful blonde-haired, hazel-eyed singer. But thank to a little hair dye and blue-tinted contacts, she has made a successful transformation to the late wife of Johnny Cash.
“Here I am as June in my trailer with her blue eyes and perfect teeth,” Jewel tweeted. Last month, she also shared that she was being fitted for prosthetic straight teeth.
Appropriately called ‘Ring of Fire,’ the film is based on June’s son John Carter Cash’s book ‘Anchored in Love: An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash.’ Jewel will star alongside Frances Conroy of ‘Six Feet Under’ as June’s mother Maybelle Carter, and Matt Ross of ‘American Horror Story’ as Johnny Cash.
While most Johnny Cash fans explore the life of June Carter after she became the singer’s wife, the movie will follow June from her early years in the mountains of Virginia to her rise to success with the Carter Sisters. It will also explore her tumultuous — and very romantic — relationship with the Man in Black.
“Many people know about the legendary love story of Johnny and June,” Lifetime executive Rob Sharenow told Deadline. “But June Carter Cash has her own epic journey filled with triumphs, tragedies, loves and losses. This movie will explore all aspects of the woman behind the icon, and we’re thrilled Jewel will be playing the title role.”
Sounds like the movie is sure to be a success — especially with Jewel playing the lead role. In 2005, June Carter Cash was portrayed by Reese Witherspoon in ‘Walk the Line,’ the Hollywood telling of the story.
