Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert treated the audience at the 2018 CMA Awards on Wednesday night (Nov. 14) to a collaborative performance of their award-nominated song "Drowns the Whiskey." Although Aldean has performed the song solo during recent concerts and TV performances, Lambert joined him for Country Music's Biggest Night.

Their set was subdued and classy--after all, this type of song doesn't need a whole lot of bells and whistles added on. When you pair together an Entertainer of the Year nominee and Female Vocalist of the Year nominee, you can sit back and truly enjoy the show.

"Drowns the Whiskey" earned Musical Event of the Year, Song of the Year and Single of the Year nominations at the 2018 CMA Awards. The song appears on Aldean's newest studio album, Rearview Town -- but it almost didn't feature Lambert.

"I had a [different] song in mind, and I sent it to her, and she was kind of iffy on it," Aldean says. "I was like, 'Hey, listen, if you don't like it, it's cool. I want you to love whatever we wind up doing. We'll find something else.'" Then, he thought of "Drowns the Whiskey," and sent Lambert the track. "She loved it," he adds.

When Lambert came into the studio to record her portion of the song, Aldean actually wasn't there (he had a show to play); however, he did chime in via FaceTime to offer his thoughts. "It turned out great, just like I thought it would," Aldean says of the recording. "It became one of the highlights of this record."
