It’s National Best Friends Day…Meet My Best Friends!
Today is a day where you celebrate your best friend...or if you are like me, your best friends! My friends and I joke all of the time about how we actually hate each other, we are just too old and stubborn to make new friends. In reality, speaking for myself (not sure about those guys), I wouldn't want any other guys as my best friends.
We aren't they type of friends to really speak about how much we really mean to each other, but since it's National Best Friends Day, I figured I would make an acceptation. So, to DJ, Ryan, Hatcher, and Jody...don't get used to this nonsense. After today, I will go back to saying "I hate you guys."
As I mentioned, I am fortunate to have more than one person as my best friend. Each one of us have our own unique relationship. Since I am an only child, these guys are more like brothers to me. I don't say it often, but I honestly don't know what I would do without my best friends.
This is DJ. We have been friends since high school, however, when I first met him...I didn't like the guy. Mainly because he's a joker and if you don't know him, it is hard to tell if he is serious or not. He's the friend that has the twisted sense of humor. He loves messing with people...especially me. He actually almost set my foot on fire once....and you wonder why I say I hate him! He's a great guy though. DJ and I are movie and kayak friends. Always someone you can rely on. No matter how much he likes to make you think he doesn't have one, he's got a good heart. Chances are, he teared up reading this a little bit, but won't admit it. I know you, bro!
Ole Ryan...otherwise known as The Pers. He's another friend that I really didn't like at first. There's actually a pretty funny story behind that which involves a tire iron...but that's a story for another time. Ryan and I talk sports and wrestling a lot. Not to mention, the guy knows his way around a grill! He's a guy that would literally drop anything to help you out if you needed it. While he currently works third shift, it makes it hard to get together, but we at least pass each other on the road every morning. He's got his funny moments too, but that's rare. In all honesty, Ryan is a guy that was an unexpected friendship, but I am proud to call him a "Brother, Brother!" He'll understand that...
Matt Hatcher, my oldest friend. We met on the school bus in seventh grade singing Toby Keith songs. He's had my back ever since. He and I have been through a lot together. We have this bond that is so hard to explain, but it's one that can never be broken. I can't speak too much on him, as I am honored to be his best man in his wedding next weekend. So I will leave the good stuff for my speech, and just say "See you at the house."
Jody! I met this guy in college. We were suite mates in the dorm and actually first met when we were quoting a certain YouTube video back and forth through the walls of the dorm rooms. I wish I saw a lot more of the guy, but he lives in Kentucky, works at a funeral home nonstop, and has a beautiful family. He is probably the funniest guy that you will ever meet in your life. Jody also does a pretty mean "Giddy up oom poppa omm poppa mow mow" when we sing "Elvira" at karaoke. No matter how far apart, he will always be considered my brother!
This one here, Matt Russell. Matt passed away when we were 16, but I couldn't leave him out. He was my brother, no questions asked. We used to tell people that we were twins all of the time...and somehow convinced them! You can read more about Matt by clicking here. He's the reason why I do what I do. I am living out a dream that he and I both shared. I miss him every single day, but I know he's looking out for me.
Okay...there you have it. Those are my best friends. Happy National Best Friends' Day! Now that I got all of that out of the way...I still hate you guys. Feel free to share a story of you and your best friend(s) as well!
In the meantime...check out some of these funny videos including some of my best friends:
