Indiana is getting a new license plate this year.

Earlier this week at a press conference in Indianapolis, state officials unveiled the new license plate designed to commemorate the state’s approaching bicentennial, which will take place in 2016.

The new plate is a snappy upgrade to the blue background “torch” plate that Indiana residents have grown so accustom to seeing throughout the last several years. The bicentennial plate will be officially available on December 27. Residents wishing to upgrade their plates will be able to do so at no additional cost.

There are currently about 2 million blue “torch plates issued in Indiana, and state commissioners are hoping that soon all of those will be replaced with the new bicentennial place that reads “Bicentennial 1816-2016” at the bottom.

A spokesperson for the Indian Bureau of Motor Vehicles said that the plate was designed by the BMV with the help of the Indiana Historical Society.
