The top 5 states in the country with the nation's most cost-effective state highway systems are:

  1. South Carolina
  2. South Dakota
  3. Kansas
  4. Nebraska
  5. Maine

Indiana ranked #36 while Alaska and New Jersey were at the bottom.

Pavement conditions in the nation have worsened slightly.  The poorest conditions in the country with urban Interstate pavement included:  California, Louisiana, Michigan, New York, and Texas. Rural Interstate pavement in the poorest conditions are:   Alaska, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Washington.

Deficient bridges are decreasing across the country, however, traffic congestion in over 40 states have motorists wasting at least 20 hours a year stuck in traffic.  In over 20 states, motorists are suffering annual congestion delays of at least 40 hours per year which is equivalent to losing a full workweek due to traffic jams.

Indiana came in at #19 in fatality rates, #20 in administrative disbursements per mile, and #21 in deficient bridges.

Indiana also ranked #44 as mentioned above in rural Interstate pavement condition and #40 in maintenance disbursements per mile.
