Today, I received the below email. It was from the email address: alert0423@customercentre.com and the "click here" link below was hyperlinked to a non Chase website. As a Chase customer, I could have been easily fooled into clicking the link and giving info but it was all too fishy. So, I called Chase to see what was going on.

I spoke to a customer representative and he explained that this is a "scare tactic" hackers use to gain access to your personal information. DO NOT CLICK THE LINK!! He could not tell me how the fraudsters knew that this email was connected to a Chase account. Mystery remains!

He also told me that if I get an email like this to forward it to abuse@chase.com and Chase will NEVER send an email that contains a link. They also discourage you from saving their website in your bookmarks or saving your username and password on their log in site.

Now, if you are reading this and thought, "CRAP, I clicked it," it's okay... If you responded to this or any other "phishing" email, call Chase immediately at 1-800-935-9935. You can also visit chase.com/contactus to find the best phone number based on your accounts.

In the future, you should continue to look out for any email that:

- Asks you to confirm, verify or give out account numbers, Social Security numbers or other personal information.

- Threatens to close your account if you don't send personal information immediately.

- Says there are unauthorized charges on your account and asks you to enter or confirm your account information.

These emails are designed to look like Chase sent them, so be careful and report any that you receive. They work relentlessly to shut down sites that generate fraudulent email.
