Huge Garage Sale this Weekend to Benefit A Kidney for Erica
It always makes me happy when I hear about someone who is facing a terrible medical condition but has hope through medical technology. Erika McAlister, who lives in the tri-state, is in stage-4 renal failure and needs a kidney transplant. Luckily, Erica found a donor. Her aunt, Kathy Embry told us, "Her donor is actually a long time friend of the family. She turned out to be the best donor match and her husband second. Erika always said someday she would be a member of their family." Well, now Erica will be!
According to her transplant page, "The average kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself."
Erika is forever grateful for her loving and encouraging support network of family and friends. Throughout her lifetime of health issues, they have been by her side every step of the way. Whether they were traveling to doctors’ appointments or sitting in hospital waiting rooms, they’ve selflessly sacrificed time to be with her. When she has the energy, she enjoys cooking, and she looks forward to the transplant that will allow her to get out and experience life again. She’s often too exhausted to do anything too strenuous, and she would love to be more active. She dreams of traveling and going to Germany again one day, but right now—she needs your help.
