Have you ever been to a restaurant with 'display food' that looks so fresh and delicious, yet looks completely real? This is especially true in some Japanese restaurants and if you're like most, you assume the food is real, but covered in some preservative to keep it from going bad. The food is NOT real, even though you would never know by looking at it. The truth is the food is made of wax and plastic and is a true art form that originated in the town of Gujo in Gifu Perfecture, Japan.

These artisans are very skilled in making wax food items that look so real, you would definitely take a bite if you came upon one and someone said to go ahead and try it.

The below video shows you how a perfect head of cabbage is made with wax, which is absolutely fascinating. I was totally amazed and had no idea. The video is in Japanese, but you will get the jist.
