Harry Morgan – ‘M*A*S*H’ Star Dead At 96 [Video]

Harry Morgan, one of television’s most prolific and longest working actors is dead at the age 96. Morgan was known for his portrayls of kindly Col. Potter of M*A*S*H fame and the serious, but somewhat quirky police detective, Bill Gannon in ‘Dragnet’. Morgan made his silver screen debut in “The Ox-Bow Incident” starring Henry Fonda in 1943 and found regular film work from then on. Morgan appeared in such classics as “High Noon” with Gary Cooper and the 1962 classic western “How The West Was Won” where he played Union General Ulysses S. Grant.
Morgan’s television work kept him in primetime for more than 35 years thanks to the 1960′s cop drama ‘Dragnet’ as Bill Gannon, a role he reprised in 1987 on the big screen in the theatrical remake of ‘Dragnet’ which starred Dan Aykroyd.
Morgan began his tenure on M*A*S*H not as Col. Potter, but as a crazy general in the show’s third season that earned him an Emmy nomination. It was in the fourth season that Morgan joined the cast as Col. Potter with the departure of McLean Stevenson.
