Past Halloweens ago after trick or treating was over, I used to treat myself to all the leftover chocolate candy. Right? I was in chocolate heaven!  I was a single parent when my own 2 kids went off to college and I decided NOT to give out chocolate treats for Halloween because I knew I would be tempted to eat each and every piece. So I, instead, selected candy that I really didn’t care about eating.

It was an agonizing decision but I decided to purchase bags of Smarties and Dum-Dums.  Lots of kids must still like them or they wouldn’t be available to buy!  Meanwhile, my 2 curious kids who remained on campus during Halloween wanted to know what candy I was going to give out.  I told them Smarties and Dum-Dums.  They didn’t approve. How could I not give away Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers bars, or M&M’s…some of their favorites and mine too!

I (jokingly!) told them that I was giving out Smarties to all of the SMART trick or treaters and the Dum-Dums to all the DUMB trick or treaters. (Shock!  Mom you can’t do that!)  They wanted to know how I was I going to figure out the smart kids from the dumb kids.  And here’s my reply:  If a trick or treater holds out their bag and says “Trick or Treat” I’ll give them some Smarties and if they hold out their bag and say nothing, they’ll get some Dum-Dum’s.  Of course, I made up all that nonsense just to hear their reaction.  (hehehe)  Just having fun with my kids!

And btw, I have lots of Smarties & Dum-Dum's for ANYONE who stops by my place for trick or treating!
