During a very rare press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, George Strait announced he will stop touring at the end of 2014. The final tour will be called 'The Cowboy Rides Away', which ironically was a song that did not go to number 1 - it peaked at number 5 on the charts in 1985. Strait made it perfectly clear that he is NOT retiring and that he will continue to make music and records - just no touring after 2014.

Strait did not rule out the possibility of a return to the road, but seemed pretty resolute in his decision. He also said that if an opportunity came up to do a show that he wanted to do, he certainly would consider it. One artist that Strait has chosen to be a big part of the final tour is Martina McBride who was out with him last year. McBride joined Strait on stage and fought back tears during the press conference. Strait has 59 number one records to his credit, more than any other artist in any other music genre. This is a developing story and we will have more details on the tour soon.
