Let’s be honest, summer can be more exhausting than an actual school year. Nothing is quite like having to cater to the “I’m bored” whining all day long. However, unless you have a lot of extra spending money, it can be hard to always provide sufficient entertainment to our crazy kids.

Our area has many free programs that we can take out kids to this summer. Here is a list of a few events that I will add to as I find more to share.

EVPL Summer Programs

The public libraries in this area are wonderful about providing programs to the youth free of charge. On the EVPL website, there is a calendar that lists all of the programs that they provide at each of the branches. My daughter loves to go to them and they are always well organized. They have programs for toddlers, teens, and everywhere in between for all interests. Visit http://www.evpl.org for more information.

Moving Pictures in the Park

The West Library is hosting a free event in their lawn park, 2000 West Franklin St. The movie series will run May-Sept on Sunday evenings through the summer. Bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and a picnic for the family and enjoy the evening, free of cost.

Boonville Splash Park- Splash Park at City Lake

This large family oriented splash park is open all summer long from 11-5. It is a great place to take the kids and let them run around and have a great time at no cost.

CMOE

The first Thursday night from 5-8 of each month, CMOE hosts “Free Family Night”.

Free Concert for the Family

Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band is hosting a free concert at the Art in the Park event at Wesselman Woods on June 21st. Check out some great art with the family and enjoy some fun tunes with the kids!

Chick-Fil-A

Kids eat free with purchase of adult meal and they have activities for the kids every Monday night this June. Last Monday, my daughter made her daddy a nice hot pink coozie for Father’s Day!
