According to Karen Sue Conaway, Franklin Street Bazaar-Market Master, “It is Evansville's only Saturday Market, and being a producer-direct market, it truly has caused a grassroots economic stimulus.” Her favorite thing about the event is that “[t]here is something for everyone and all feel welcomed and comfortable.   People end up staying the whole time because it is so inviting.”

According to Conaway, “A Farmers' Market on Franklin Street had been discussed for 2 years.  I started volunteering for the FSEA in January and heard there was the need/desire for a market.  I started researching the laws and talking to local government to find out the feasibility.  I [also started] taking workshops through Purdue and talking to farmers.  First Federal Savings Bank then agreed to sponsor the Bazaar.  It came together fairly quickly.” She shares that the bazaar features “local produce, art, baked goods, and services.  There is also live music, diverse and ethnic hot food vendors, and children's activities every week.  There are new vendors joining us every week.  People don't want to miss a thing.”

Interested businesses can still get involved. Conaway shares, “We are [taking new vendors] but only vendors that are offering different types of items than we have now.” She also adds, “I am personally visiting every farm to assure that safe producing and harvesting standards are followed.  The Bazaar is committed to quality, local only produce for our community.”
