After an 11 year career, tight end Dallas Clark will retire as a member of the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft.

Dallas Clark was both a favorite of both fans and quarterback Peyton Manning during their time with the Colts. After being released by the team before the 2012 season, Clark spent one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and last season with the Baltimore Ravens on a one-year contract. After the Ravens opted not to re-sign the veteran and no other teams showed interest this offseason, Clark made the decision to call it quits.

His time with the Colts were certainly the high point of his career having set franchise records for most career receptions (427) and receiving touchdowns (46) by a tight end while finishing second in receiving yards (4,887) and 100-yard games (seven) according to a statement released by through the team’s website. Team records weren’t the only ones Clark was setting either. In 2009, he became only the second tight end in the history of the league to post 100-plus receptions behind then-Atlantic Falcons tight end, and future Hall of Famer, Tony Gonzales who caught 102 during the 2004 season. His post season number of receptions (64) and receiving yards (847) are also NFL records.

What’s next for Clark is unknown, however I wouldn’t be totally shocked to see him retained by the team in some fashion much like former center, Jeff Saturday when he announced his retirement back in March of 2013. Like Saturday, Clark is highly respected by both the team and its fanbase, and highly respects them in return making the possibility of a role within the organization seem plausible.

Clark will announce his retirement as a Colt during a press conference at the team’s facility Wednesday morning at 10:00am Evansville time.
