Over the years, there have been numerous Holiday movies. Since it is that time of the year, I have comprised a list of my top 5 favorite Christmas movies of all time. Throughout the days leading up to the big day, I will share those movies with you in descending order.

Number 2- Elf

Elf has to be one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. Will Ferrel  was somehow believable as Buddy the Elf and created many Christmas catchphrases that we now use every year. This is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again and it never gets old.  It is still hard for me to not answer the phone by saying "Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?"

I am sure you have seen this movie a few times, so no need to give you a play by play of the entire film, but here are a few fun facts about Elf courtesy of IMDB:

  • The elf Ming Ming, who appears briefly in the beginning of the film, is played by Peter Billingsley, who starred as Ralphie Parker in the classic holiday film A Christmas Story (1983).
  • Will Ferrell suffered from headaches throughout filming, as he had to actually eat all of the sugar infested foodstuffs in the Elf food pyramid on camera.
  • The design for Santa's Workshop as well as the Elf uniforms come from the original Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) animated special. The Elf uniforms completely mirror the ones from the TV special. Most of the animals in the North Pole are also designed to look like the same form of stop motion animation used in Rudolph.
  • When this screenplay first emerged in 1993, Jim Carrey was attached to star in the lead.
  • The apartment that Buddy's dad lives in is the same apartment building (exterior shot) that Dana Barrett lived in in Ghostbusters.
