The flu outbreak is really bad and the hospitals in the Evansville area are taking precautions to protect patients. St. Mary's and Deaconess Hospitals have implemented the following visitation restrictions:

No visitors with flu-like symptoms. These include cough, sore throat, fever, chills, aches, runny or stuffy nose, and vomiting or diarrhea.

No visitors under the age of 15.

No visitors other than immediate family, partner, or significant other (immediate family is defined as parents or legal guardians, step-parents, siblings and children age 15 or over, husband or wife).

The hospitals worked with the Vanderburgh County Health Department in developing these policies. Exceptions may be made for cases involving critically ill patients and end-of-life situations.

The flu can cause serious complications and even death, especially in the very young, the elderly, and those with certain existing medical conditions.
