Historic Newburgh is going to have a busy second half of 2015! Check out all that's going on!

Historic Newburgh Farmers Market is every Saturday, through the end of September.  Our farm market is more of happening than just a market.  Not only do we have fresh local vegetables, we have grass fed beef and pork.  There are artists, plants, flowers, & honey.  Many Saturdays, we will have music to complete the festival atmosphere. The Fiddler Fest, presented by the Friends of Newburgh, is always the last full weekend in August, the 28th and 29th and specializes in catfish fiddlers, a beer garden, music and vendor booths.  It takes place at the Old Lock and Dam Park is a fun weekend starting on Friday night and going noon through 9 pm on Saturday.

Traditional English Boot Sale is September 19th and is a yard sale out of the back of your trunk.  This British tradition takes place at the Town Hall Parking lot 8-noon during our Saturday Farmers Market.

The Sir Brit Britsh Car Show will be at the Old Lock and Dam Park all day on September 19th

Free Family Movie Night is Sept 19th and in keeping with our British theme for the day, is Paddington.  Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy the movie at the Gene Aurand Trail Head.  Movie starts at dark.

Historic Newburgh Theatre Series presents always funny and intriguing community theatre Oct 2, 3 and 4th which is the first weekend in October. Purchase your ticket in advance at Historic Newburgh, Inc. by calling 812-853-2815. $15 per ticket

Ghost Walks is October 16, 17, 18. It is an interesting walk through the streets of Downtown Newburgh.  The tour guides, share some of the spookier legends of Newburgh’s history.  Learn about the Civil War, Underground Railroad; as well as river lore.  You will meet some of ghosts of the townspeople as they share stories from the past.  This event cost $5-$9.

Old Newburgh presents Ghostly Stroll Walking Parade. Trick or Treat through the Downtown Newburgh stores, Oct 24, 3-5.  At 4pm the streets will close and The Walking Parade through town will begin.  Kids of all ages are encouraged to come in costume and participate in the costume contests and other fun planned.  All willing pets are welcome!  This is sponsored by many of the Downtown Merchants. Free

Free Family Movie Night is October 24th and is Hocus Pocus.   After the kids walk in the Ghostly Stroll Parade, head down to the Gene Araund Trailhead to take part in our Harvest Festival.  There will be games for the kids, food to eat and then at 7 pm, settle onto your blanket or chair and watch the movie Hocus Pocus.

Christmas Open House Day kicks off the Holiday season on November 7th.  Each shop has their own special way of thank you for doing business we us.  Many will have special discounts and may even have a treat to share.

The Blessing of the Wreaths is a special day when the local merchants gather to say a blessing for the season and for a personalized wreath that their shop will be offering for a drawing on December 6th before our Town Hall Christmas Concert with the Castle Knight Sensations.

Silver Bell Saturday signifies that the Christmas season is in full swing.  You will hear the bell toll every hour on the hour at Preservation Hall.  The silver bell decorations on the lampposts are in place and the shops all have specials going on for the season.

Historic Newburgh Celebrates Christmas is Dec 5th and 6th which is the first full weekend in December.  You feel like you are participating in a free form street musical!  We have people in period costumes recreating Newburgh in the 1880s.  There are musicians, carolers, and chestnuts roasting on an open fire.  There will be Trolley Tours, Find the Elf Contest, and Photos with Santa.  The Historic Newburgh Museum will be open with it’s special Christmas Exhibit.

Town Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Concert with the Castle Knight Sensations. At 5:00 people begin to gather in Town Hall Council Chambers.  There will be the drawing of the wreaths at 5:30 and the Castle Knight Sensations will share their special Christmas music.  Then we march down to the Tree of Light lighting and then to the Riverfront live tree lighting.  It is a wonderful example how contemporary meets tradition in the Town of Newburgh.
