EVSC Is the Highest Gaining School District In Indiana — But There’s Room for Improvement

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation received its report card today, and the consensus is the district will have to try harder – getting a “C” from the Indiana Department of Education for overall performance.

However, in a recent report by WFIE, school officials say the “C” is a step in the right direction, as it is an improvement over the “D” rating the district received in 2013. The rating is based on the combination of all Indiana district school grades.

Superintendent David Smith says that while the majority of districts remained the same as last year – 98% -- the EVSC experienced an increase of 1.35 points on a four point scale, making it the highest gaining district in the state.

"We're the highest performing large school corporation in Indiana. We've made the largest growth or gain in growth this year also for many of the large school corporations. We're very pleased that we've seen better growth than anyone else in the state has seen in our situation and our pledge to the community is that we will continue to work feverishly to make certain that each and every student continues to receive an outstanding education in our schools," Smith says.

Smith adds that schools in other districts in the surrounding area may have scored higher because they are much smaller than the EVSC.
